Stephen Large - piano/organ
Stephen Large is one band member that can still leave the rest of RSR with their jaws wide open during a gig. He has an ability to rock, shock, surprise and often frighten his fellow musicians during a performance. The band sometimes wear protective clothing to shield themselves from one of his instrumental interludes.
Stephen has drawn much inspiration from other pianists such as Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles and Nat King Cole and is a huge fan of Oscar Peterson and Hammond player Jimmy Smith. His classical additives and random musical silliness is reminiscent of heroes like Dudley Moore and Les Dawson.
Stephen is Jools Holland's replacement in the band Squeeze and has recently been musical director/pianist for X-Factor's Rebecca Ferguson as well as musical director/pianist for Duffy following the success of her debut album Rockferry. Occasional live performances with Noisettes, Paloma Faith, Rod Stewart, Pete Doherty, Blur's Graham Coxen and Motown Legend Martha Reeves have kept Stephen extremely busy over the past few years.
